After the completion of Grand Coulee Dam in 1941, irrigation water became plentiful and many farms were started north of Pasco. During the Hanford boom years of the 1940's through the 1970's, Pasco's economy was mainly agricultural and it was the smallest of the Tri-Cities. After construction of the Interstate 182 Bridge in the late 1980's, the Road 68 and Road 100 areas experienced an explosive growth which almost doubled Pasco's population. The West Pasco areas of Road 68 and Road 100 continue to expand, making Pasco one of the fastest growing areas in the State of Washington.

Local events and activities include Columbia Basin Community College sporting events, The Tri-Cities Dust Devils baseball team, The Pasco Farmers Market which runs from May through October, The Fiery Foods Festival, an event in September which celebrates hot foods. Trade shows, sporting events and concerts are held at the Trade Recreation Agricultural Center (TRAC).

Exceptional recreational opportunities in and around the region include the Cable Bridge Park, Chiawana Park and several other parks along the Columbia River. There are also smaller community parks, boating and world class fishing off either the Snake or Columbia River. The Sacajawea Heritage Trail has 22 miles of jogging and bike paths encircling the Tri-Cities, and runs along the Columbia River shore of Pasco.
